    Yeah! Some people say taking a shower once in a while is superfluous! Damping might be seen as the last piece of a puzzle in speaker design but my experience showed me you can really fix some resonances and bad behavior by a judicious use of damping material. Great video!

    W hat if one cone from a sub is removed and the coil is directly connected to drive the Cone of the other sub? What would be the difference? Essentially one cone being driven on both sides by two motors

    I'm not sure why you got a larger than normal surge of power when you reconnected the battery. Did you maybe leave the battery disconnected longer than you normally do? My guess is that the energy stored in the capacitors in modules all over the vehicle became discharged and when you reconnected the battery you got a massive surge as those capacitors recharged. Amplifiers do this all the time when they are disconnected from power. Most amps have a small discharge circuit that allows the capacitors to bleed down. When reconnected they might have a brief surge of current of 10 or more amps before settling down. If the DSP uses a capacitor to save the basic settings, not the big presets, then it's capacitor may have gotten drained and the DSP reset itself. That would be my guess as to what happened.

    The only thing I don't like about Audison are their DSPs. They're very temperamental. They might need to be powered off when connecting to the laptop, then booting it up, ??? Also, your volume was down on the DSP because of the new firmware update, not because of the power surge.

    Hi! i like so much your vids! i´d like to ask you something...what brand of dsp do you recomend and how should i connect it in my car? i´m looking for a dsp "good, nice, and cheap". My car has an amplified bose car sound system (stock audio system) and i just want to connect a subwoofer with amplifier. thanks!

    • @AudioJudgement
      @AudioJudgement 7 днів тому

      If you want to connect a sub (and that’s the only upgrade), just get a hi-low signal adapter. Get the signal from the rear speakers and hook up the sub amplifier to the adapter. Go to a car audio shop. It’s not straightforward and dangerous to install an amplifier with no experience. Car can catch fire.

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 5 днів тому

      I suggest you do a lot of research on your specific car and find out what other people are doing. If you have a factory subwoofer then you may already have a good signal, if not then it's a lot more tricky to get a good subwoofer signal. Luckily, adding a subwoofer and small amp is usually the first modification that people make so you should be able to find a lot of examples with your specific vehicle.

    Hey, I'm just curious. I don't have a BMW, but I wonder what your thoughts are on an underseat woofer? Is it a subwoofer, or is it as a midwoofer? Any thoughts? Thanks as always.

    • @AudioJudgement
      @AudioJudgement 7 днів тому

      It's a compromise solution. It's clean a look and your trunk is free. However, you have to understand the limitations, because the available volume is very low. Bass will be average at best, unless the whole system has premium speakers/amps. Theoretically, it's just a sub, but it depends on how each car brand sets those speakers up. Having a whole seat and a passenger over it is definitely a bad thing. So, it's advisable to low pass these subs as low as your mid-high speakers allow, and have as much of the frequency spectrum coming from the front. Again, the 4" speakers will have their limitations as well, and at some point the under seat subs will have to take over.

    For Vas, I use metal or ceramic bowls, they are very sturdy, very easy to measure internal volumes and the hemisphere shape is ideal as an enclosure. I stick a sponge between the bowl and the speaker and is very easy to secure any speaker with scotch tape. I used this method up to 12 inch speakers.

    Oh I don’t think your 3x math works. You need to find the offset required and work from there. 30mm template and 10mm bit is a 10mm offset…any other size template and bit even 3x multiples is going to create a different offset. Ex 15mm guid 5mm bit is a 5mm offset.

    So, i like the fr flatness and consistency, but i would want direct control of the sub as that doesnt even resch as low as alot of small bluetooth boomboxes. Tribit stormbox blast, jbl boombox 3, dbsoarsf29max, wking x20, all either smaller than this or similar sized and play to ~90db hitting down to 45-50hz, and well over 100hz with their dsp rolling it off after 100hz

    Just before discovering this video I had ordered the one you mentioned as interesting on the site. That one with a "gold" and a black variant. I took the black one. We'll see. My primary use is to play bass 🎸 on it so I don't really have the same needs. For instance low E on the bass is 42Hz and there's no reason the speaker would ever encounter lower frequencies.

    I wonder why there are so huge differences between measures and data sheets displayed on AliExpress. One option is that they simply cheat and make data sheets that correspond to the speaker they copied and not the ones they produce. Another worse option is that it is a lottery. Maybe they actually measured one speaker they've produced but the quality of production is random and if you buy a second set of speakers they'll be totally different. It's worse because if you want to make a stereo system you'll never have left and right giving similar sound. Maybe they've tested 10 speakers of a model and they kept data from one of them that seemed commercially better? If so yo have 10% chance to get a speaker matching roughly the dataset?

    In olden days, some people used large open cardioid baffles, the cardioid shape has a nice even responses being either equally good, or equally bad across the board. It does need to be rather hefty, with size also a factor, iirc the circumference would be the wavelength of the cutoff frequency of the baffle. They also look cool, like huge lilypads.
